Coffee

Bullet Proof Coffee

  • Using quality fats in quality coffee makes the coffee absorb slower. If you’re sensitive to caffeine like myself (yes I’m high energy no that should not shock you lol) this is an excellent way to avoid that “spike in energy” causing the “jitters”.

Caffeine

  • Caffeine acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist.

  • Adenosine makes you sleepy, slows down nerve cell activity, blood vessel dilation

  • Caffeine increases nerve cell firing, blood vessel constriction, adrenaline production & starts the SNS fight or flight response.

Quality Coffee

  • Find a local sourced, properly roasted coffee company that cares about their product & not simple making money like Folgers or Maxwell house. People drink bean water everyday! Most coffees at the super market have molds & mycotoxin contamination. Yikes! Freshly ground coffee has a higher antioxidant content than pre-ground sat around for months coffee.

Fats

  • Unsaturated fats have at least 1 double bond, are liquid at room temperature & are derived from plant sources. Monounsaturated fats have 1 double bond where polyunsaturated fats have 1+ double bond. Polyunsaturated fats contain omega 3 & 6s. Oil/ avocado emoji

  • Saturated fats lack a double bond between carbon atoms, are solids at room temperature & are derived from animal products. Butter emoji

  • Trans fats are the bad fats. They’re a by product of hydrogenation which turns healthy oils to solids to extend their shelf life. They’re officially banned in the US as they’re directly linked to inflammation & chronic illness. Banned emoji

Grass Fed Butter coffee- what that cow ate is important!

  • Grass fed butter (& beef) has a higher nutritional content than factory farmed products. No contest. You get what you pay for. Butter, Ghee (lactose free) & coconut oil are highly recommended where as margarine & other seed oils should be completely avoided. Adding MCT oil is straight rocket fuel for your brain as it is quickly converted to ketones.

  • There is significantly higher proportions of unsaturated fats (omega 3s), conjugated linoleic acid, vit A, vit K & beta carotene.

  • Omega 3:6 ratio is balanced in grass fed products meaning less inflammation. The higher DHA & EPA decreases inflammation. Factory farmed products increase inflammation as they have higher Omega 6 contents.

  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid from dairy (not Safflower oil) has several benefits from increased immune function, decreased adipose & enhanced insulin sensitivity

  • Vit A is an essential vitamin meaning you can’t make it & need to consume it in your diet.

  • Beta Carotene is what your body converts into Vit A & a potent antioxidant.

  • Vit K is fat soluble & exists as K1 or K2. K1 is found in leafy greens where as K2 is less common in the diet but super important for bone/ vascular health as it regulates calcium uptake.
